Changes when editing a post shared/rechosted originally without adding anything

If you share/rechost a post without adding anything, then go back later and add something to the header or body, your changes will be saved but not shown in the timeline, it seems like?
I believe this also happens when saving a draft of a share/rechost, then adding your own content and publishing.
It seems like either when you do add additional material, it should be displayed, or else the system should not allow you to add anything to an already-saved share/rechost without restarting the process.
